Times keep changing and we have a new epoch of new cars unfolding; we have witnessed this evolution. Green cars are right now the talk of the town and everyone is trying to adapt to the change. But, will the green electric cars take complete control of the future?
Electric vehicles started squeezing into the industry way back in the mid-19th century. Electricity was at the time among the preferred methods for automobile propulsion offering comfort and ease of operation that gasoline cars of the time didn’t offer. Electric green cars, as everyone says, certainly benefit nature. But, will they make human lives and transportation easier? Let’s see what the experts predict.
Prediction 1 – Anxious about the Range? People will Get Over it
Almost all upcoming electric cars are going to offer a range of 160 km or even lesser than that. But how many of us drive over that range in a single? The range anxiety is more a psychological problem than a physical one. Most of the cars would be charged only at home. However, once there are charging stations on the roads, experts believe, the range anxiety will get over too.
Prediction 2 – Electric Vehicles will See a Slow Start
Experts say that the electric car market will move at a very slow pace in the beginning. There are many polls conducted almost every other day and these suggest that electric cars certainly have a big fan following and many would like to have a hybrid or electric vehicle for their next purchase. As long as the prices don’t go too high and there are plenty of charging stations constructed in the country, the electric car market will witness growth. However, this will take time and so, experts predict a slow start.
Prediction 3 – Chinese Cars will get a Foothold
There are host of Chinese auto makers that seem very interested in selling their cars in other nations too. However, as of now, Chinese cars cannot be trusted on build quality. But, experts believe that the build quality will surely get better with time. The Yugo case, where the passenger seat of the car was pushed forward only to have it hitting the front window resulting in cracked windshields, will hopefully not repeat. Cars made in China are going to prosper and predictions say that Chinese cars or may be the Tata Nano could find a spot at the top in the U.S. car market because of the irresistible price.
Prediction 4 – Plug-in Hybrid Sales will Start Slow
Experts believe that, owing to publicity already given to the Volt from Chevrolet, it will sell well, but other plug-in hybrids will start slow. The Volt has been strapped with a small gas engine to provide electricity to the motors, and the new car as a whole is a smart, intelligent and well-presented package from GM. But, how good are the car prices? The truth still remains that hybrid cars are more expensive than conventional cars and Indians always look for cheaper alternatives. Thanks to the innovative technology, these cars will gradually pick up sales.
Prediction 5 – Fuel-Cell Vehicles will take Time to Improve
Fuel-cell vehicles are being thought of, but don’t expect to buy one anytime soon. They can simply attract anyone, but for the price. Fuel-cell cars are quick yet silent. However, these cars, with hydrogen in their tanks are still a costly option and we all know that there are hardly any fuelling stations for these at the moment. Experts believe the scenario will improve with time.
