First Electric Delivery Truck for San Francisco Goodwill

First BYD commercial delivery truck fleet to serve the Leading Bay Area Reuse nonprofit debuted at Advanced Clean Transportation (ACT) Expo

LOS ANGELES, Calif., (5/2/18) – Build Your Dreams (BYD), the largest electric vehicle company in the world, unveiled the first of eleven commercial delivery trucks being built for Goodwill, a nonprofit dedicated to making communities stronger by turning donated goods into jobs. The unveiling took place at the annual Advanced Clean Transportation (ACT) Expo in Long Beach, CA.

The new zero-emissions electric truck will be used by SFGoodwill to collect and transport donated goods in , San Mateo and Marin counties. SFGoodwill’s donation collections alleviate pressure on local landfills and support job training programs for people struggling with unemployment.

SFGoodwill gives donated items a second life and people a second chance.

“We are eager to deliver the first electric delivery truck for SFGoodwill, an organization that creates thousands of jobs and improves the quality of life in our communities. Our reliable zero-emissions technology will be a great addition to their operations,” said Stella Li, President of BYD Motors.

The new BYD T7 battery-electric medium-duty truck is over 20’ long and has a GVWR of 23,600 lbs. The T7 features a 175kWh charging capacity and has an estimated range of 124 miles with minimal battery degradation.

SFGoodwill partnered with the Center for Transportation and the (CTE) to provide engineering and planning support to develop their electric vehicle program. CTE is a non-profit firm specializing in providing technical and logistical support to help transportation organizations transition to zero-emissions vehicles.

“Today is an exciting milestone for SFGoodwill,” stated William Rogers, President and CEO of Goodwill Industries of , San Mateo and Marin.  “Collecting donated goods to create local jobs and take pressure off our landfills is integral to Goodwill’s mission. This zero-emission fleet of eleven electric trucks will reduce local emissions, improve air quality and demonstrate Goodwill’s commitment to improving the communities we serve.”

The electric truck fleet project was supported by the Climate Investments program, which provides economic incentives for achieving reductions in the emissions of pollutants, particularly in disadvantaged communities. Matching funds were from the Bay Area Air Quality Management District and an in-kind match from SFGoodwill.
