Aptera 2e Electric Car-More Video

So yesterday we featured some news and video abut the upcoming Aptera electric car which is a real head turner on the road in that it departs from conventional car design to the point of being almost completely unique. It bears further review. So today we feature a wrap up of various videos on the Aptera development.

Legally classified as a 3 wheeled motorcycle, the company claims to have pre-sold 1100 cars already.

Not much, if any, detail available on their web site regarding the electric drive system i.e. no power figure quoted for the electric motor used.

Aptera – the 300 Miles Per Gallon Car

Aptera Electric Car Claims 300 Miles Per Gallon Fuel Efficiency
by David Gutierrez

(NaturalNews) Electric car maker Aptera claims that the electric-
gasoline hybrid version of its new Typ-1 vehicle gets 300 miles per
gallon. The vehicle will be available early in 2008 for less than
$30,000.

The Typ-1 comes in two versions: fully electric or hybrid. According
to Aptera, the electric model can go 120 miles on single charge, and
can be recharged from any normal 110-volt power outlet. The hybrid can
go 600 miles on a full tank, and either version of can reach top
speeds of 95 miles per hour.

The three-wheeled Typ-1 seats two in the front, in addition to a small
seat in back that can fit an infant’s car seat. If this back seat is
removed, it converts into cargo space large enough to fit, according
to the company, either 15 bags of groceries or two full-sized golf
bags.

The Typ-1 has several other features that set it apart from other
conventional, hybrid or electric vehicles. Instead of side mirrors,
the car contains embedded cameras all along the sides and back that
transmit to a screen in front of the instrument panel, displaying a
180-degree rear view. Solar panels built into the roof power a climate-
control system that is always running to keep the interior temperature
from falling too far above or below a certain point.

Safety features in the vehicle include driver and passenger side
airbags and a front-end crumple zone. The car has built-in GPS
navigation, a CD/DVD/MP3 player, and XM satellite radio, as well as a
USB port that can be used to charge mobile devices such as laptops or
MP3 players. Radio-frequency identification chips embedded in the key
and car make it so the key does not need to be inserted to open doors
or start the engine.

The Typ-1 is available for pre-order on Aptera’s web site, for a
refundable deposit of $500. At present, only California residents can
order – the company expects, however, to eventually deliver around the
country.

If you’ve paid for gas lately, you’ve probably paid a record amount to top off your tank. But there’s a new car coming onto the market that reportedly costs a penny-per-mile to drive. It’s the latest “gas sipping” vehicles on the road.
