Geothermal Heat Pump

Li Thomas asked:

Are you interested in saving money month after month on your electric bill? A Geothermal heat pump may be just the ticket to those savings.

What Is a Geothermal Heat Pump?
A geothermal heat pump is a system of underground tubing that uses the earth’s natural resources (in this case, consistent temperature) to either warm or cool your home. These systems are becoming more widely available in many areas. And did you know that many states offer rebates, tax credits, or other financial incentives to install a geothermal heating and cooling system?

Is a Geothermal Heat Pump more Expensive than a Standard HVAC?
Yes. But before you dismiss this option for your new home or for your existing dwelling, consider these factors:

How much (after rebates, credits, etc.) will the system cost you? How much will this amount add (in dollars) to your mortgage payment (or other loan option)? Okay, now estimate your projected savings PER MONTH on your electric bill. Are you looking at a positive cash flow? For example, if your average power bill is $200/month, that’s a $2400/year outlay for electricity alone. If your new system cuts that in half (or more), will you come out ahead? Compare. How long will it take you to recoup your upfront cost? It may be much sooner than you think! Now consider energy efficiency, life cycle cost (Geothermal systems last much longer than standard HVACs), LACK of fossil fuel used, and the reliability of your heating and cooling source. This is a clean and green energy system!
Is a Geothermal Heat Pump System Available In My Area?

Do some research. Call your local electric co-op to check availability. See who offers installation in your area and what estimated cost your system may run. Installers should also be aware of any financial incentives for your purchase. Consider life cycle costs. How far will you be ahead once your upfront costs are recouped? You could pay extra on that mortgage! Once you do your research, your choice will become clear. Keep in mind also, that if you choose to move in the future, your energy efficient abode may well sell faster and command a higher purchase price than a standard electricity guzzling house.

Geothermal – Energy Efficient. Non-toxic. Comfortable. Conserving. Don’t you think it deserves a second look?
