While camping in remote areas or working in construction where electric power is at a premium, having your own portable solar power unit to plug into can supply some of the power needed for comfort or convenience. Most people consider solar power as a means of alternative power generation that will eventually replace coal-fired generating plants but the sun plays a crucial role in their ability to operate adequately.

The theory of solar power is well tested and has been proven as a viable choice, and with new technology in solar panels and batteries with a longer life, portable solar power units are making an impact on those needing some power while on the go.
