Wind energy has been picking up lots of attention lately for both good and bad reasons. This report seems to be one of the good indicators that wind energy is a good part of the alternative energy puzzle we need to assemble in our country to have a diversified energy portfolio.
Wind power ten times cleaner than coal, Colorado NREL researchers say

Wind power could be a big plus for the atmosphere
A kilowatt-hour of of electricity generated by wind power emits less than one percent of the greenhouse gases as a kilowatt made by burning coal, according to a new National Renewable Energy Laboratory study.
Researchers at NREL, in Golden, Colorado, took 397 different studies done on emissions from different power sources – from cradle to grave – and regularized all the data so it could fit into one big “meta-analysis.”
All the renewable power sources did better than coal when it came to the emission of carbon dioxide, the prime, man-made generate gas linked to climate change.
But thin-film solar cells – made by applying a micro-thin layer of chemicals to a glass or plastic substrate — produced less than half the carbon dioxide as traditional silicon cells.
