Solar Powered Homes Coming Of Age

Solar power fueled homes used to be a thing of fantasy or only something the extreme eco home owners would try to accomplish. But the times have changed drastically. Prices of solar technology have come way down. The efficiency of solar cells has gone up and continues to improve each year. And green homes have become a thing of desire for shoppers in some markets. What has this resulted in for homeowners or would be home owners?

Well the answer is that developers have gotten he word and they are now building homes to be green, to be energy efficient, and even to be completely powered by solar and other alternative energy options. There are solar homes communities being built in California, Arizona, Texas and other states as we speak.

This has also brought about a great opportunity for contractors who once did just electrical or heating and air conditioning systems to now branch out and work on solar energy systems installations on existing homes as well as work with developers who are building new homes. Imagine if you are one o the smart contractors who saw this opportunity coming along in the past year or two and suddenly instead of being stuck in a bad economy chasing after dwindling numbers of leads you suddenly had a whole new world of jobs opening up to your business.

I found one such contractor in Texas. They are providing free green energy in Austin Texas. They also do electrical work but they have built up a nice business niche in providing solar, rainwater collection systems, wind energy and more to homeowners. Now in my recent discussion with Michael Gorton about solar energy development he discussed that residential solar was not a big factor in our overall national energy production equation, he still admitted that these types of residential solar installations are an important part of the mindset equation in our country when it comes to accepting the utility of using solar on our rooftops tops to reduce energy dependence for homeowners.
