We took advantage of the Solar City lease option to secure a solar energy system for our home in California. The program launched in 2008 but when the economy went south the financing for the lease program took a hit and it caused big delays which were no fault of Solar City. So it has been some months since we …

How did I accomplish that? Well instead of driving my 20 MPG car to work as per normal I rode my brand new Diggler electric scooter to work, zipping along on surface streets and arriving at work in about ten minutes longer than driving my car, all the while getting a fresh air look at the world on my ride.

When buying solar supplies, keep in mind there are two main types of solar energy. Solar thermal energy can collect the sun’s warmth through water or an anti-freeze mixture. Solar photovoltaic energy converts the sun’s radiation to usable electricity. Solar thermal energy is commonly used in hot water tanks and pool heating, whereas photovoltaic systems are most commonly used for …

My long march to getting solar energy installed on my house in California continues it slog towards the final day when it gets turned on and we jump for joy. It all started last Fall when SolarCity was heavily promoting its new program for leasing a solar energy system. I was not in the position to buy a system for my house so the idea of leasing the system and putting down a modest down payment ($1000) and being able to basically pay the same amount each month for the lease and my electric bill as I am currently paying for the electricity straight from the utility had some real merit to me.

Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar and U.S. Senator Harry Reid today announced a series of initiatives, including proposed “Solar Energy Study Areas,” that would expedite the development of solar energy on public lands in the western United States. The Bureau of Land Management believes that the selected areas, which have high solar energy potential and are located near existing transmission lines and other infrastructure, have low levels of conflict with natural resources.

Solar water heating systems are an effective way of conserving energy and reducing your energy bill. Contrary to popular belief, this is not a new technology. Solar water heating systems have been used commercially for over a century now, with the first commercial water heater (the Climax Solar-Water Heater) going on sale in 1891 in the United States. By the …

Ed Ring Even if California only ends up with 25% renewable electricity within the next decade or two, there is going to be a staggering amount of investment pouring into wind and solar power, and with intermittent sources of energy, massive storage infrastructure is just as necessary as the generating infrastructure. In our analysis of Prop. 7, California’s Proposition 7, …

Yet, there are serious questions about geothermal energy development. It has been named the ‘poor cousin’ of renewable energy: likely because it is mining a finite resource and there is the little issue of causing earthquakes . Geothermal energy provides significant benefits in terms of improved air quality, increased diversity in electric energy sources, local and state revenues, and employment. …
