Windy Flats, developed and constructed by Cannon Power Group, in Washington State is one of the largest wind farms in the United States (. The wind farm project, which involved Siemens Energy, Inc. and Siemens Financial Services, Inc. began with construction in mid-2008. Since then, more than 300 jobs have been created, which is a relief to a county with high unemployment rates. Thanks to wind energy in the region, many young people have been able to remain in their hometowns rather than moving to bigger cities to establish careers, enabling families to stay together. If you would like to learn more about the impact the wind farm construction project had on the community, please watch the video. Wind Power energizes a community in Klickitat County, WA.
Siemens asked:
Benefits – $5000 per windmill if you’ve got the land
Benefits – Wonderful if you live in Seattle, Portland, or California
Cons – Overpowering if you live by them, don’t own the land, and have to look at 100 windmills and the associated high voltage lines.
Cons- County underassessed the facilities so about one-third of what should be is going into the tax base for the schools, fire departments, roads.
The wind companies sure put one over on the good old boys.
